It seemed to do it with EVERY block of data sent / received.  I can't 
confirm it at the moment, but as you said, the remote was reporting 
"Online, Online, Online" over and over again when transferring a file. 
The time stamps seem to agree.  Whenever I attempt to get the picture 
to fail, I'll see what I can get in the chat windows.

The repeaters around me are tied up with Nets this morning, so I'm 
waiting for them to clear.  I shouldn't complain....  I'm in the 
fortunate position to be able to reach 3 D-STAR systems with an HT.
